Half Moon is a small series of stoneware espresso cups, each one handmade individually with the ancient technique of pinching. After having pinched the cup to shape, it is then left to dry until the surface reaches the right stage to be refined of any unwanted irregularities and finely smoothed.

The choice of using the pinching technique is to achieve an organic and intentionally imperfect look that cannot be achieved with any other faster building techniques. Once bisque-fired, each cup is then glazed in two finishes: approx. half in a clear, glossy glaze that highlights the natural warm white of this particular clay and half in a black/deep brown glaze with a beautiful velvety finish, which develops a range of interesting hues in direct light.

– Always use mild cleaning agents. Never use chemical cleaning products or harsh abrasives.
– Dishwasher safe, although we highly recommend hand washing as it is more gentle on the glazes and surfaces of the pieces. For any functional piece, such as plates, cups etc., avoid thermal shock, which may cause the piece to break. We highly discourage using handmade ceramics in the oven or the freezer.
